What Comes First in an Essay?
What Comes First in an Essay? The Lost Tools of Writing a Good Essay is out in the fourth edition of The Writing Life, which for me says the question is not yet answered. What comes first in an essay? It was the only thing that came first in my whole life and that would be my mother. She always taught me, read me a story when I was very young and taught me how to read. I still believe she is the greatest writer I have ever known, but for many years I did not know it.I have written about the lost tools of writing a good essay a number of times before, but the missing part has remained a mystery to me. And it hasn't always been the same question or part. Now there are twelve parts, but in all those years, what has come first? The Lost Tools of Writing a Good Essay, by Sally Lambert, is published by New Harbinger Publications. When I got the book in the mail, I went ahead and opened it, first on my office computer and then on my portable laptop computer that I bring to class every day. The story section is split up into two parts, both of which I could care less. The novel section has a thesis statement, then three short paragraphs, and finally the summary paragraph.First, what comes first in an essay is your thesis statement. This is the statement that will lay out the subject or theme of your essay. A thesis statement can be about someone's greatest achievement or a general topic that will summarize all that you have covered in your essay. In this section, Lambert provides one sentence, but very much worth the time and effort that it takes to research and write the essay.I also like the idea of being able to write from a reader's point of view. My essay on what comes first in an essay is a combination of what I have learned in college, working as a high school English teacher, and what I have learned by reading the suggestions of The Writing Life and by attending workshops. The Hidden Art of the Essay comes out in the fourth edition of The Writing Life, and in this edition I learned how to use that book and the others to tailor my own ideas and perspectives to the different sections of the essay. At the end of the essays the teachers provide suggestions for future research, activities to make them better, and help with the editing process. The Hidden Art of the Essay has become my most valuable guide, because it is so important and practical for college students. The Lost Tools of Writing a Good Essay, by Sally Lambert, does not provide any guidance for the essays. I feel that we are just as much at liberty to write our own essays as we are to read other people's essays. But, what comes first is what will give you the best result, and it is Lambert's job to explain that to you.The Missing Essay, by Phil Miller, is published by Ashgate and is now available as an eBook. My favorite of the entire series is The Missing Essay, which come out in the third edition of The Writing Life, and there is some very valuable information in the first two essay s that allow you to be more creative. The Complete Guide to Making a Good Essay is now available as an eBook from HarperOne.
